Album: Paris
Painting what might be summed up as the ordinary, simple everyday life in an ordinary city like Toronto, was my only preparation for trying to paint ordinary simple everyday life in an extra-ordinary city like Paris, where I could literally stand anywhere and just paint what was in front of me. I did not do that of course; we were not there to record/document Paris, rather we were in pursuit of a totally interactive experience - we would have an effect on Paris by creating paint- ings which expressed the effect Paris had on us.

Album: Interiors and Secluded Gardens
To get to how and why I would explore interiors, me who has little use for society, spends most of his time trying to live between the cracks, trying utmost to be invisible, one needs one word. Circuitous. That is a word. The interiors are a collaboration of people n places; an assembly of things across places; moment in time visitation of places none of which really matter that we have set foot there, and yet none of which regret our having set foot in there. Some derive from our having stayed there; others source out as suggestions put forth/contributed by others. So they really are not about the places they are. It was and is a chance to get silly. The interest here is not so much any particular living space, any particular interior, as it is with reduction of interiors to abstracted essentials of random design n flow patterns of colour forms interacting with light. Colour. That is another word. The interiors are a change, in the sense of a chance to mix/combine intelligence and silliness through colour. If you are aware of my landscapes, you will be aware that I am very cautious with colour; colours are sought after, sought out, worked into the water colours, but all constrained in such a way as to work into, work with, bring out the overall harmony of the painting. The interiors, were chosen because of the random design we came across in each, and in keeping with this, we worked them all with random colour choices, random colour combinations,

Album: Venice
If only i could pretend to write a very intellectually artsy intro...all I know is...from the moment I know i am returning to Venice, until hopping aboard the wooden deep throated gurgling motor launch lazily complying with the no wake signs along the narrow, twisting wood pylon lined channel pointing to that yellow haze in the distance, which slowly disintegrates, along with all my collective memories of la Serinissima, at the rate that Venice solidly rises anew out of the sea before my eyes - it is absolutely necessary I should be in Venice then and there... sure I have been here before...and to freshly gaze upon her, all anew, lose myself here for the first time all over again, the constant struggle each time is that of letting go of the at-home familiarity after 11 painting trips, over a year spent painting in Venice.... it is an easy task, simply because I adore Venice, have fallen deeply, desperately in love with it.
