Consistency; yesterday catches up to today
given the lifespan of FB posts is mere minutes does posting / consolidating FB running dialogues here actually highlights growth / changes with respect to public recognition of the work or am i merely being a lazy blogger?
to quote Bob Dylan, ‘it began on an uneventful morn’, over the weekend Lesley McLaughlin, after seeing my latest post there asked;
Lesley McLaughlin “Ever consider publishing a book with sections for the themes of your work? Is that a ghastly thing for an artist to consider? I love that you have your website and facebook page, but I wonder how many people would enjoy a lovely ‘coffee table’ book to browse and enjoy. I’ve not seen anything of yours that isn’t fascinating. Each painting demands lingering”
James V. Chism “Agree with Lesley.” Lesley McLaughlinAnyone else agree with me and James? (Yesterday at 2:26am · Like)
Lesley commented that given the consistency in the work, when sorted out it could possibly make for an interesting art book. several years ago, i noticed the slides i kept as records of my work had begun to fade, transferred them onto disc and then self published a 11″ x 17″ book on each ‘subject’ as it were. we are talking – well, to update it to today – nearly 10,000 paintings, only part of which i had a record of – (many left in the days we could not afford film) the books ended up being beyond costly – the winter book alone was 300 pages & cost me over 400.00 a copy to print (all the others numbered somewhere around 200 pages) and a few clients actually did buy them at cost from me. all efforts to find a publisher who could mass publish only gave me a deeper insight into the difficulties of the publishing world; so i ended up with a copy of each for myself as a hard copy record and of course, many new works have found life and any new books would either have to form a second volume or expand the initial ones accordingly. so i just paint.
others also wrote in, and weaving those threads of conversation into this expands / gives added depth to what they think of this idea and the work itself; although in many ways all the issues remain unchanged from when the idea to publish first took root.
posting a collage of several of the books brought these responses’
Dragana Jovanovic Masterpiece, caught all the shades and colors..go for it!!! Victoria N. Hadden Is there anywhere we can view these online? Lyn Bane What a shame, Micheal. There are still so many people who prefer to hold a “real” book as opposed to an electronic one. Lyn Bane Michael, I’ll ask around to see if any of the artists (of different genres) know of a publisher who isn’t extremely expensive. Will let you know if I find anything/body who does. micheal zarowsky;Hi Lyn, boston mills press was interested, (which firefly books bought out’ & took away their decision making powers) but it never went anywhere; you have to understand – i have no money – not sure how i will survive this winter; that is how close it is so publishing is the furthest from my mind; it all began as a response to a post by a lady from rhode island.
Georgia QuartaroI was the lucky recipient of one of the books – and I treasure it. (19 hours ago ·( thanks Georgia, kind of you to say that; given that we have continued to paint most of them need a 2nd volume but that ain’t gonna happen / at least i don’t see how it could in the near future)
Hi Victoria, have checked and there also are a book on chickens / on teddy bears / georgian bay (on disc ready to print) and the cyclades – a group of greek islands. i wasn’t so much promoting these – have pretty well given up on that idea – i was merely responding to Lesley’s comment; i can’t afford to publish them as it stands; however, at the same time that i put the books together i made a series of slide shows which i put up on you-tube; the you-tube people made me take most of them down as i had used without permission ‘copyrighted’ music as background some are still up at;
the only positive thing i could do, in terms of offering an immediate alternate solution was redirect everyone to 2 sites where i slowly am archiving some work and to you-tube where a few of the many slide shows of work i put up are still online (which in a way defeats the idea of publishing a book)

Theresa Loomis· It’s my opinion your paintings don’t age. Micheal Zarowsky i agree; i think they hold up with age / over time / are as fresh today as the day they were worked out. Theresa Loomis I agree. I think it’s a sign of timelessness. I detest trendiness. I see too much of it even in jewelry. Micheal Zarowsky yep; recently everything was birches birches birches so much so that those not knowing any better even painted them bearing red leaves;Theresa Loomis Now that’s funny! Sorry I missed that trend. Lately any kind of artisan jeweler calls their pieces “statement” necklaces. I hear the most retarded statements in my head. Plus the most pretentious moody abstract names like it’s high art.
