Because ideas develop over time / a not so cut n dried continuity / neither we nor ideas develop evenly / as evident in the amount of interest / time spent on certain ideas while others are being ignored at the same
time. Some ideas have more in them than a single painting / there is an back and forth interaction of
working through the idea and the idea working me which sparks off all manner of other ideas connected
to the one being worked on worth considering to merit an painting of their own after I finish what I am
working on. Hence series develop. Rather than follow someone I would easily follow an idea.

Autumn reds, began with a painting of 4 red maples growing in a row some two blocks from where we live.
An idea that started with my trying to come to grips with living within the city limits, been here 30 years and
finally realized in am a city dweller, oh my. Anyways it started back in 08,/ became a series ( unlike some
which are the left on the back burner of the mind for a while) and has been focused on/ made to come alive
for nearly two years, in new developments in what I saw there. (in between working / exploring other series
of course – that mental ongoing juggling continuity between real experience and imaginary ones, where
most ideas are kept up in the air while slow progress is made.

Much like the change of focus when a newborn arrives, and no one is looking at the previous nine months
and all involved before the birth, seeing each new painting by itself, alone, is different from seeing them
within a collected grouping. While i want my paintings to have that newborn look, without showing all the struggle / effort involved in creating them, it is also fun to see the progression over time. Since I only work
on one painting at a time, i have no need to worry about discussions of twin births here….

When I look around at some one else’s work, I come to it ready to meet it halfway, hoping to have what
it has to offer emanate out to meet me halfway as well.; of those works that actually do have something
to offer / those I like / I, of course, like everyone else, after a few minutes, begin to tear them apart,
searching to see the struggle that went on to create them.
