moonlit irises
irises ought be out now lining the banks of the saugeen river as thick as parade watchers waiting for the queen to float by; need to get up and soon; a number of years ago we went out at night during a full moon and sketched what was lit up by moonlight and came back the next day and worked out the rest of the shoreline of irises that had been hidden in the dark….

Micheal Zarowsky fun times from a while back / looking to see what else i can do with them
Randy Faulds Hey Micheal do you still have #5 in this collection?
Micheal Zarowsky Randy Faulds no… but i could work something out either on paper or panel along those lines….
Randy Faulds Micheal Zarowsky I will try to drop by one of your shows this summer Micheal. Love your work.
Micheal Zarowsky Randy Faulds city hall – july 6 – 8 booth c-237 just 150 feet north off queen n bay – and of course you are always welcome to pop by the studio – just call ahead to make sure we are in
Randy Faulds Micheal Zarowsky thanks Micheal. See you soon.
Patricia Gullage STUNNINGLY SPECTACULAR.
Cathy Groulx Your compositions are always perfect. Keep on painting!!
Micheal Zarowsky thanks Cathy, ma nature is the source, Wendy and i just touch on some of what is there to be found
Cathy Groulx Well I love the way you interrpret what she places out there!
Micheal Zarowsky thanks Cathy, it is just so neat to be able to be out there and experience the world after dark, and for us so difficult to be able to try n express it in // thru paint, so when we saw the effects of moonlight on the irises and water, it just blew us away n we just had to find a way to work it out
James V. Chism I never know when to say “ best” because your work makes my jaw drop every time…..I am tempted to say “now” but then tomorrow will come. I love this series.
James V. Chism Micheal Zarowsky they are almost spiritual.
Micheal Zarowsky thanks James, we like to think there is a spiritual element in all our works
Manon Beaute These look so real to me very beautiful
Manon Beaute I will add its hard to believe these are watercolor !! Look like oil painting .. my only regret is not being able to actually see them !!
Micheal Zarowsky allergic to oils, tried once to paint with water based oils, only to realize after working gout an idea that the thinking / painting process was still along watercolour lines, so what was the point..and without sounding arrogant or anything, the way i approach and use watercolours is unlike / goes beyond, most watercoclour painters
Manon Beaute agreed i have to hand it to you watercolor is not an easy medium. You are an artist with great talent . Thank you for sharing your work it is very impressive !!
Micheal Zarowsky thanks… it is 2nd nature now so i don’t have to think about it…no wait that’s not true i do have to think about it – it never gets any easier cause as i come to understand anything concerning it i take on more and more difficult ideas to work thru….
Lindy Usher Beautiful!
Micheal Zarowsky replied · thanks Lindy.
Becky Harblin so beautiful
Micheal Zarowsky replied ·thanks Becky
Ed Reliuga There is strange, mystical, photographic quality. But its as if the camera has a unique lens — known as the “Zarowsky”. Incredibly rare…. the lens is crafted specifically to view the world through the eyes one amazing person — he sees infinity and the sublime.
As usual Michael, I am truly awed. I had to simply hurl accolades and compliments at you…but, what the heck….you can take it.
Ed Reliuga You pretty well do what you want with light, dont you? It’s as if you were exemptfrom “the rules” everyone else has to obey. Thank you being such a rebel.
Micheal Zarowsky light n water the 2 things you cannot paint directly only the effects of / so far it has been enough to keep me busy from 76′ til now / infinity rings 12 / black river coopers falls / 28″ x 44″ / watercolour on gessoed birch panel
Micheal Zarowsky was at a party today at one of our oldest continuous clients – dating from back in 87 – and saw some pieces i can’t even remember having done and which took me a little while to re-understand how i did them / so when i got home tonight i went and painted over 4 paintings that after seeing the earlier pieces, were just not good enough anymore
Micheal Zarowsky Theresa Loomis when working on paper i just tear them up / here i have to re gesso them a couple of coats and can start anew
Theresa Loomis Micheal Zarowsky I love gesso. I use it for all kinds of work. It’s very forgiving.
Micheal Zarowsky Theresa Loomis you might take a look at ‘absorbent ground’ – where gesso creates a plastic kitchen counter top like surface, absorbent ground has a linen feel to it, and as the name implies absorbs the paint ( yes it cannot be removed) and has an overall ‘flat’ feel to it….

some time ago started painting all the wild flowers in Ontario / got nearly forty done and attention deficit disorder got me and i moved onto something else / although be damned if i can remember what (one of the near 40 / never shown, still here at the studio – lupens 26″ x 21″ watercolour on arches paper )
