blue sky day at Arta
spoke with Yas at Arta Gallery about location of my blue sky day painting being shown at the Gallery…….
…….it occurs to me that sharing location info might create specific interest in the work otherwise unavailable. …..virtually all the winter paintings express ideas I came upon found created while snowshoeing wherever I could find sunshine following an overnight snowfall. I have an entire ongoing series I call just that. ‘overnight snowfall’ . another series where I try and bring out ‘the feel of the sky as the light filters thru in the forest’ which I call ‘blue sky day’.
It was painted along a rolling stretch of forest on the southwest side of southwood road. There are parts to the experience that don’t necessarily make it visually into the painting but are there thru the overall feel it offers; snowshoeing alongside long rolling shadows felt a lot like being on a sailboat in the Caribbean sailing on the long long slow rolling waves
i came upon southwood as an on going source for winter light by researching snow squall patterns coming in off georgian bay and found southwood rd falls within the span of such a weather pattern. it continues south across the top of the kawarthas blanketing everything eastward over to lake ontario/
Southwood rd is an up and down twisty forest rd running from hwy 11 (just north of washago) over to hwy 169 at Torrence / Bala
AND is best travelled slowly to not go over the edge – no shoulders beyond edge of pavement – and going slowly you can see deep into the forest after which it becomes an impossible where to park issue.
