Canadian Art Collective – New Work
Stewart Jones, Peter Rotter, David Lidbetter, Laurie De Camillis, Julie Desmarais and Michael Zarowsky
Opening Reception: Sept. 29th, 6 – 9pm
Arta Gallery is proud to officially announce the arrival of one of our biggest exhibitions of 2016! Our walls will play host to brand new work from the Canadian Art Collective.
The Canadian Art Collective is comprised of six artists that have dedicated their practice to capturing the raw sublimity and diversity of the great Canadian landscape. Whether, urban, rural or simply uncultivated, every region depicted is seen as a unique observaton of the continuing and evolving relationship that we have with our environment.
The paintings are sensual with texture and colour, ranging from the bold, expressionistic brushstrokes of Stewart Jones to the silken strokes and subtle colours of Peter Rotter. David Lidbetter’s sophisticated and mysterious application defies analysis, while Laurie De Camillis applies only what is neccessary with a bold, direct approach. Driven by a desire to capture the absence of human presence, Julie Desmarais couples thin oils with a delicate application in order to create the illusion of light resonating from within the canvas. By contrast, Michael Zarowsky pushes towards abstraction by using a self-invented technique that combines acrylics with watercolours, ultimately resulting in rich, dynamic compositions on prepared birch panels.
This wonderful show marks the official start of Arta’s Fall Exhibition series. Join us for an Opening Reception on September 29th from 6-9pm as the artists will be present. We will also be hosting a special performance from Toronto-based celloist, Cheryl Ockrant.
