they are finished. then they are not.

the koi were an idea that flowed out of trip to venice

 

giving a second, or third look as we work our way thru paintings in backroom shelves

and while it is easy to  talk / take the idea elsewhere, most of the time it is not necessary.

the idea stands up across time: at best there may be an whole new painting in there

waiting to be brought out making for a series.
