painting stuff off the back burner
. reposting here my response to a comment by fellow artist Scott Rubie, on our interiors. just to clear up i have not made at directional change. the short dialogue exchange was fun because i had to bring my thinking up to date in my own head about whether it was a move or what kind of move it was.
let me say, i am able to lose myself across painting subjects and to some extent styles with the same intensity, fervour, love of the ideas Wendy and i choose to work on and out. and we work an idea basically until it loses its overwhelmingness, and maybe never, but sometimes it resurfaces and we find there is more to it that is possible now because of what was done before. i suppose my journey doesn’t travel as far in one direction because there are too many sideroads of interest to follow up on.
an earlier interior of ours that never made it out of the kitchen / fleurs for van gogh / small 11″ x 8″ watercolour on paper
the original comment and …..
These recent interior paintings are lovely. I’d love to know your motivation for the change in direction.

Scott Rubie hi Scott not really a change. I see most artists take an idea and run with it develop it and make a name for themselves in this way. Perhaps I ought have gone that route. My journey started with winter paintings after working with Jack Reid, having my shrink at the time suggest there is more to the world than ontario winter, and facilitate a painting trip to the east coast then helped us get to Paris to paint so we were never going to limit ourselves in any way. spending several December’s in paris worked our a series of 20 views of paris from a balcony, then talked our way into some paris interiors , trading sketches for the privilege. The initial series of interiors were all on paper, all sold, and led us to some other idea and so were put on the backburner of my brain until I had more to say about the idea and just now have worked up 4 interiors which I filled with multiple cats going about their day just ignoring us …so it is important for me to get these out of my head and shall see how many more are wanting to get out. the consistency for me is the style which is just how i paint.
Micheal Zarowsky So… just how many cats are in your head, Micheal?

Micheal Zarowsky I get that.i like waterfalls but I also like Barnard’s and back alleyways and cityscapes. There’s lot more to do yet.

Scott Rubie sorry, i wasn’t being totally literal here; no intention to define nor limit any ones range of ideas, was more alluding to artists becoming known, getting recognition for the work they put out.
