there is no possible preparation for trying to paint simple ordinary everyday life in an extra-ordinary city like Paris, where I could literally stand anywhere and begin to paint what was in front of me . I did not do that of course; we were not there to record /document Paris, rather we were after a totally interactive experience – we would have an effect on Paris by creating paintings which expressed the effect Paris had on us.
