Lines of Vision September 6 – October 6, 2012 Opening Reception: Lines of Vision exhibits artworks by two talented painters Gordon Leverton and Micheal Zarowsky. The pair views landscape in two diverse ways. Painter Gordon Leverton explores the urban homes of downtown Hamilton through close cropping and analysis. He is not concerned with the building’s tenants or the decorative elements of the old homes, but with the shapes and inspirational colours they possess. His paintings are often flat, but full of life via strong angles and vibrant colours. From driving around Hamilton, you will find yourself trying to pick the spots Gordon Leverton has captured, but you will never be sure. In contrast, Micheal Zarowsky looks to show the viewer significantly more detail in his nature watercolour landscapes. He embraces the play of light and reflections created by water to trick the viewer into seeing two of the same landscapes on one panel. Zarowsky’s detail is incredible and comparable to impressionist work. Often you will find the image begins to dance when greater distance is obtained. Gordon Leverton: is currently practicing in Hamilton, Ontario. Leverton is an elected member of The Society of Canadian Artists, as well as a self-taught artist. His artwork has shown in The National Gallery, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Todmorden Mills Museum, Ogilvy Hall in Montreal and the Tom Thomson Memorial Gallery. Gordon’s work has frequently shown at the juried Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, and has received first place awards in the Junction Juried Art Exhibition and the Riverdale Art Walk in Toronto. His work is in many corporate and private collections, including the City of Toronto, actress CCH Pounder, and founding chairman of the National Museum of American History, Dr. Ivan Selin. Micheal Zarowsky: is currently located in Toronto, Ontario; however the subject matter of his work covers Grey County, Georgian Bay and Muskoka. Upon opportunity, Zarowsky also explores Nova Scotia landscapes. Zarowsky has developed a unique method of watercolour application that dismisses the use of framing with glass. His work may be hung in the same manner as a work on canvas.
