scout flakes
base line rd sutton spring melt with airborne snowflakes
filled a need to work up a painting of this stretch of baseline road running parallel with and just a block south of lake simcoe in sutton that i would drive past everytime i came up to take my dad to sunnybrook for his mac degen shot. most springtimes winter would never know if it was coming or going; any warm day and the ground cover would start to melt exposing the grasses underneath and reflecting the clouding sky which would send out scout flakes to checkout the lay of the land before bringing in a fresh dump. i painted the scout flakes as being airborne, not yet reaching the ground, in this case, suspended midair, never to reach the ground on this day where the melt had not yet risen to flood levels.
