sumachs as a riverside screen
who would think a short stretch of the muskoka river between 2 power dams would continue to open up visually with new possibilities for painting ideas year after year? Wendy and I have spent countless hours on countless visits across all seasons since the 90’s going up n down this riverside road and coming away with you guessed it, countless paintings. for most of the distance the road is inches away from the river lined with trees clinging to the shoreline as its twists and bends offering up stunning views downstream or upstream so much so that while there you have to remind yourself that the non river side of the road is lined with mostly well set back hidden cottages.
it is more fun watching the otters coming up and sliding along the snowcovered winter ice in the river. can’t remember every having seen any human in the water playing although the water toys spend summer getting sun bleached on the docks.
‘sumachs’ has been an effort worked on now and again for what seems like well over a year. i like where it is now enough to post it here.
