red leaves floating, an ongoing series
i’ve talked of this before in earlier posts, mostly after working up the latest rain pond filled with autumn leaves; come fall i go looking thru rolling countryside, for rain filled depressions in the land, for rain created instant ponds filled with inches of excess rainwater as it fingers in thru the grasses making for movable shorelines lasting until the water is absorbed into the ground;
unique moments in time.
leaves that had fallen to the ground are now floating, most often in visually spiralling open patterns over mere inches of water; focusing on the patterns of the floating leaves where they are of interest, is only part of what i find and take away from here; other works focusing on the deep reflections that are possible only because this is’ inside a forest’ which provides for the reflections which you cant get any way anywhere else.
having explored my idea of ‘red leaves floating’ across nearly a dozen works each one taking the notion further or in a fresh direction, my latest is a smallish work on panel – again the paintings kind tell me what siZe they need to be – october rains from up Red Bay higher up Lake Huron way. my titles for these works have been simplified down to merely ‘red leaves floating’ which kinda says it all for me right now.
red leaves floating 18″ x 30″ watercolour / acrylic painted directly on gessoed panel / available 1700.
