“Within the traditional system, there is a lot of pressure to do one type of work and then repeat it endlessly. You can see that in the majority of artists’ work – it’s called a signature image or an image that’s easily identifiable. It becomes a brand. I’m not interested in that. It’s absolutely boring to me. I think it’s awful. I don’t want to do that. So, that was one of the things I found of value that I wanted to pursue as an independent.” Hazel Dooney.

I paint every day and once a work is finished it is stored away, some, It turns out, for years before I feel I want to / am ready to show it. As often as not I am just as surprised by seeing a watercolour I have pulled out to show after not seeing it since it was completed.
